Now Nellie Spins carries Ashford Wheels and products for all your spinning and weaving needs
In 2010, what started out as a curiosity, soon became an obsession. I was watching a friend spin fiber on a drop spindle. She made it look so easy. The fiber would gently twist upon itself creating a beautiful dance as it moved. Once paired with another the waltz would begin. I was hooked.
All colors could be blended into a rainbow of delightful yarn. Weaving, knitting, and crocheting projects were waiting to be created. Only one problem, I didn't know how to do them.
When you think of the amount of fabric we use today, it is hard to believe that once it was all made by hand. The fibers needed to be harvested and prepared for spinning. Men, women and children would pick up their spindles and begin to spin. Once the yarn was made the weaving would start, the cloth would be ready for your everyday needs. It makes you stop and think about all the items that are made of fibers.
It wasn't until the 11th Century when the spinning wheel was introduced that creating fibers or yarns became easier. The spinning wheel increased the productivity of thread making by a factor of greater than 10.
So now in 2012, Now Nellie Spins, an Ashford Dealer, is launching in a new direction. With the help of "Fields of Fiber" (Diane Fleshin) and "Heartland 'Criations' Alpacas" (Kathy Albert), we are hoping to be able to fulfill all your fiber and crafting needs.
